Lauren+Joe | Canoe Adventure | Nashua River

When I first met with Lauren + Joe two years ago, they told me they were torn between eloping and having a big wedding with their family and friends, but had decided on the latter. We threw some ideas around and landed on doing a canoeing adventure after their wedding. Their wedding day was beautiful, you can see it here, and then we tentatively planned to do another shoot later with just them. Well, later finally came two weeks ago and I’m SOOO glad they opted to do this!

I honestly had no idea how I would shoot a canoe session, as we only had one boat, which meant I was balanced between them trying not to tip us, or on shore while they went by me. But we just went with it and I am in LOVE with every single image. It’s sessions like these that fuel my creativity and remind me why I love my job.

Canoeing is something L+J tried out a few years ago while on family vacation, and to their mutual surprise, found that they both loved it! Being out in nature, forced to slow down to the speed of two paddles, and work together as a team are things that bond them together. It’s also how they spend most of their summer weekends. We went down the Nashua river is the sun rose early on a Sunday morning, climbed ashore to find the most magical secluded forest, and spent a lot of time just taking in the silence and beauty of the river. I loved getting to document their love of canoeing, nature, and of course, one whole year of marriage <3
